With the cost of vacations rising, bringing the family on a grand holiday may be too costly. However, this doesn't mean families should stop going on holidays altogether.
An alternative to the usual family holiday is camping. It's equally fun and provides lots of opportunities to not just bond as a family, but also learn more about the great outdoors. Here are five family-friendly campgrounds you can try:
- Boston Harbor Islands: Still in sight of the city skyline, visitors need not go too far from Boston to enjoy a camping holiday. Campers can reach the island via ferry or a private boat. Visitors are encouraged to reserve their sites in advance since the islands are only open from mid-June through Labor Day weekend.
- Pocahontas State Park: Just a 20-mile drive from Richmond, Virginia, families can enjoy the park's various activities like hiking, boating, and fishing. There are several miles of trails with stunning views as well as two bodies of water (Beaver Lake and Swift Creek) that visitors can explore.
- Devil's Fork State Park: Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Devil's Fork prides itself with the same amenities that popular campsites have. There are also numerous falls that can be accessed through easy to moderate trails.
- Norway Beach Resort: Sitting among the pines of Chippewa National Forest is Norway Beach Resort. Here families can enjoy a holiday in a rustic, lakefront cabin with fully equipped kitchens and bathrooms. Just a few steps from the cabins, guests can try outdoor activities like fishing, canoeing, and biking.
- Goblin Valley State Park: Far less busy than its bigger counterparts in the Four Corners area, families can enjoy the view of goblin-like rock formations that were sculpted by wind and water over a million of years.
Holidays don't need to be expensive. Go camping with your family instead!
