The historical capital of Gdańsk Pomerania is the largest city of Kashubia. Gdansk is located along the Baltic coast and set on the mouth of the Motława River. It is the country’s principal seaport and a major industrial center. The city is known to be the birthplace of the Solidarity movementunder the leadership of Lech Wałęsa, who became the President of Poland in 1990. You can say that the city underwent tumultuous times throughout its history, dating back to the period of Teutonic Knights until the end of the communist rule in 1989. Today, the city is a major tourist destination and boats of a rich culture and history. The Gdansk Lech Wałęsa Airport is your gateway to Gdansk. It is located 14 kilometers west of the city center, and is served by domestic and European carriers.
The first place you must visit in the city is the old town, one of Europe’s largest historical centers. It is brimming with old buildings and structures such as the Gdansk Mills; Gdansk Granaries; Town Hall; the Monument of King Sobieski; a Polish Post; Preacher’s House and a number of churches. After a tour of the old town, you must visit the city’s top attractions including the European Solidarity Centre; Neptune’s Fountain; Oliwa Zoo; Westerplatte; Amber Museum; Jelitkowo Beach; National Maritime Museum; King Arthur's Court; Ronald Reagan Park; Gdansk History Museum; Heweliusz Monument and Stogi Beach, just to name a few.
